Grounded Self

I am a Spiritual Being having a Human Experience. We all are. It is a different way of seeing and being who we are in the world and in the Universe. Part of having a Human Experience is to anchor ourselves in the Earth by being grounded.

When I am struggling with a problem I feel unsafe, disconnected from the place where I am and who I am with. It is up to be to find a way to reconnect myself at being Present, being in the Here and Now. When I am in the Here and Now, the worries of Past or Future for me seem to disappear. I recollect and gather together the feelings I have, let me work through the feelings rather than pushing them off to a distant place.

Being grounded means for me, finding a quiet place and literally telling myself “Look at the trees, the gardens, the flowers. Listen to them as they have words and understanding for me that I want to hear.” So I listen, I extend my awareness outside of the body and listen with different kinds of ears, see with different kinds of eyes. I stop talking-in-the-head and actively listening. Sure enough, it always works for me.

I suggest you do the same for as you go through your Spiritual Path you will find junctures in the road and faced with “which way do I go”, and “I’m so confused and I can’t make up my mind.” When you reach that point that is a time for Grounding Self.

Grounding self can start as walking quietly in the neighborhood or nature around you. You can also give yourself the help of Thich Nat Hahn’s “Pease Is Every Step”. He gives many walks to have unique meditations in addition to sitting quietly in a space and tuning out the noisy world. Find a meditative way that fits you. Mine is Walking Meditation. When I walk, Nature sings.
